A Center for Restorative Solutions

Serving the Greater Seattle Area

We can shift from stuck-ness, feelings of being helpless and enemy images of others, by changing/reframing the stories we tell ourselves. I recently created this workshop with the support of Maria Lemos, for Freedom Project, (an organization here in Seattle that supports healing connection and restorative communities both inside and outside prison through the strategies of Nonviolent Communication, mindfulness, racial equity and anti-oppression). The workshop exceeded my expectations in the shifts that happened for those of us who were present, and in how it highlighted the effectiveness of the NVC communication model itself.

Warmly,

Changing/Reframing the Stories We Tell Ourselves

There are a variety things that inform what each of our brains selectively observe and interpret about what happens. When we integrate a power analysis into the brain science, we understand how 2 people watching the same event may see something quite different. Can we ever assume a shared reality? There are layers of nuance to both the observation and the resulting interpretation and judgments that we make.

This workshop is a structured process of learning how to re-examine the stories we tell ourselves that are resulting in disconnection and disempowerment. Bring a story or two that you have about someone you are not enjoying; or a story about a situation in which you are feeling disempowered. We will work through a stepping stone process to reframe the story in a way that creates more openheartedness and empowerment. The goal is that you will be able to use this process for other stories you are creating for yourself in your life, to bring more choice about what serves you. This workshop will be fully grounded in core NVC practice.
